Winter Haven has recently completed its $1 million initiative aimed at expanding downtown dining options through the addition of outdoor café areas. This endeavor is made possible by an ordinance that permits businesses to utilize public rights-of-way along a section of Central Avenue and 4th Street NW for these café spaces. The City of Winter Haven’s planning efforts, complemented by the engineering expertise of Carter and Kaye Engineering, LLC, entails the transformation of 20 parking spaces across two blocks of Central Avenue into over 700 feet of curbside outdoor dining. These designated dining areas will feature covered tables and seating, creating a safe and enjoyable environment that is separated from traffic by curbs and railings. With the repurposing of parking spaces into outdoor dining areas, the streetscape will undergo enhancement, contributing to the vitality of the downtown area by attracting foot traffic and fostering a stronger sense of community engagement. Winter Haven encourages visitors to utilize the adjacent free parking garage, conveniently located just north and centrally positioned between the two primary café zones along Central Avenue.
