Retained to collaborate with a local architect and the Polk County Facilities Management Division to prepare the civil site engineering construction plans, assist with the attainment of permits, and perform construction observation and certification services for the Medulla Fire Station. This project included the design of an onsite gravity sanitary sewer system to discharge to an onsite septic treatment disposal system. The project scope consisted of the design and permitting for the construction of 6,380 sq. ft. office and apparatus building on approximately 18 acres. The facility was designed to operate 24/7 with eight onsite employees. The project was reviewed by Polk County Development Services Division, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Southwest Florida Water Management District, and Polk County Facilities Management. This work also included an evaluation of a semi-detailed flood study and simulation of a 100-year 24-hour rainfall/runoff event to estimate the onsite flood elevation. This flood study required additional surveying of two areas to develop a digital terrain model for further evaluation of the site and ultimately to protect the improvements. This data was also used to engineer the stormwater management facility and produce a more efficient/reduced design. This project also required the evaluation of an existing onsite sewage treatment and disposal system for adequate space to receive 2,100 gpd of wastewater from the proposed building.
